Point Pinos Lighthouse
Point Pinos has been in continuous operation longer than any other lighthouse on the West Coast. You can see the light cast by it’s One Thousand watt bulb for up to fifteen miles if the weather is clear. It is located 89 ft. above sea level. The lighthouse is at the north end of town, drive on Lighthouse Avenue thru town and then turn on Asilomar and you will see the lighthouse.
Charles Layton was the first lighthouse keeper and earned $1,000 per year. Emily Fish was the most famous of the lighthouse keepers and was known as the “socialite keeper” since she liked to entertain guests so often at the lighthouse.
The Point Pinos Lighthouse has a golf course and small lake in front of it and is especially scenic!
