Birds at Point Lobos

Anywhere in Point Lobos can be good for Birding -but start with the Bird Island Trail!
Bird Island Trail – .8 mile (not a loop). Newly reopened and now handicap accessible! Parking and restrooms available. Drive as far south as you can to get to the Bird. This is a nice trail at any time of the year. But Spring and Summer is best as you will be able to see them nesting. As you walk along the trail look up in the trees and you may spot an Osprey.
Birds that may nest here include: Black-crowned Night Heron, Sea Gulls, Cormorants, Canadian Geese and more!
You will see Comorants, Great Blue Herons, Snowy White Egrets, Great Egrets fishing in a number of locations. In rocky areas listen and look for the Black Osyter Catcher. You may see numerous other birds such as the Brown Pelican, Kildeer, Rock Pigeon, Red Tailed Hawk, American Kestrel, Wrentit, Scrub Jay and Stellar Jays, California Quail, White Crowned Sparrow, Spotted Towhee, Anna’s Hummingbird, Turkey Vulture, Dark Eyed Junco, Pygmy Nuthatch, Chestnut-backed Chicadee and more!
